Custom Check: Your bags & baggage need to go through the customs check at the entry point of Nepal. The custom check is mandatory not only for the foreigners, but also for the Nepalese and Indian or Tibetan nationals. The Nepal government charges a tax on all dutiable goods brought from outside.
Red/ Green Channel: If you’re traveling to Nepal by air, you’ll land on the Kathmandu Airport. Go through the Red Channel to get clearance from the customs. Checking all baggage may take time, as there are other passengers as well. However, if you’re not carrying any dutiable goods, you can just walk off through the Green Channel without any hassle.
Duty Free Items: You may bring the following items free of any custom charges:
Used personal belongings
Cigarette (200) or cigars (50)
Liquor one 1.15 liter bottle
Film 15 rolls.
Conditional Items: You can also bring the following articles free of duty under the condition that you take them back with you when you leave:
Binocular, video camera, still camera, laptop computer, and portable music system.
Import/ Export: You’ll have pay Import taxes for all items you carry inside Nepal for business purpose. Similarly, exporting sacred images, paintings, manuscripts over 100 years old is illegal even if you buy those items from the market. All such objects need to be verified by Department of Archeology. Your may ask your travel agent to verity the item before leaving Nepal.
