Long Distance Bus Service

The public bus service is a great way to get acquainted with the local life. However, luxury bus services, which are extremely comfortable and much faster, are also available from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Chitwan. Most buses from Kathmandu to other parts of Nepal leave from the Gongabu Bus Park located on the Ring Road on the north side of the town. Some buses leave from the old bus park near Tudikhel and others from Gaushala near Pashupatinath.

There are several bus companies operating Tourist bus services between Kathmandu and Pokhara As well as form Kathmandu to Sauraha. They all leave at round the same time from The Kantipath from Kathmandu at 07.00 and from The Tourist Bus Station at Lakeside Pokhara at 07.30.

It is advisable to book at least a day in advance, and then you get a better seat. They usually stop twice en-route, once for breakfast and once for lunch, however it is always a good idea to take along your own snacks as the stops tend to be at isolated roadside restaurants that have higher than average prices.

The buses to Jiri leave from Ratna Park in Kathmandu take for the 10-12 hours journey to Jiri. They leave from 6am. The journey has been described as a journey from hell.

In the main season you can catch a Microbus direct from Kathmandu to Besisahar,

Night bus services are popular among the Nepalis, but the schedule may not be reliable.
