Namche Bazzar is situated on the lap of the Khumbu Himal range. It is the gateway to Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world. Namche is about 241 km from Kathmandu and is also the trading centre for goods coming from the high mountain passes of Tibet. Plenty of things/goods related to mountaineering & especially for expeditions are bought and sold in Namche Bazzar. Namche has benefited the most from the westerners’ attraction for the Mt. Everest. In terms of the national income, the district of Namche contributes to the economy with an income more than the capital Kathmandu. There are a good number of tourist class hotels in Namche. The places of interests for tourists are the museums, stupas, monasteries, stores and several bakery cafes.
Namche is the main trading center for the Khumbu region with many Nepalese officials, a police check, post and a bank. There are also many internet cafes in the bazar. The Syangboche Airstrip lies just over the hill from the Namche Bazaar. Namche has cool, wet summers and chilly, dry winters mainly affected by its altitude and the summer monsoon season.
