Pokhalde Peak

The Pokalde lies in the Khumbu Himal Range of the Everest Region, standing at a height of 5806 meters. The mountain which lies southwest of the Everest also goes by the name of Dolma Ri. Despite being in the Everest region, the Pokalde Peak is considered a relatively easy climb, especially climb from the Base Camp to its summit is easier than on most snow peaks. This makes Pokalde a popular desination among those who wish to get to the top of a mounatain without much hassle. Moreover, the panoramic views of the Everest region peaks, including other giants like Pumori, Ama Dablam, and Makalu amply rewards the ascent. However, the trekkers should note the exposed rocky nature of the mountain and make enough acclimatization to the high altitude environment.

The Pokalde has a long history with the Westerners after the first ascent via the southeast ridge in 1953. The Kongma Glacier near the Pokalde Base Camp makes the hiking more enjoying. There is an ice-wall suitable for taking training on ice climbing. However, such offbeat attempts should be done with enough gears and under the guidance of trained mountaineers. For the rest, more exposure with less technical challenges makes Pokalde a popular destination.
