Tharpu Chuli Peak

Tharpu Chuli Peak: The Tharpu Chuli was nicknamed as the Tent Peak in 1956 by the first western climber Jimmy Roberts. The nickname might have been derived from the central position of the mountain in the Annapurna range. The peak was first summitted in 1964 by a Japanese expedition team led by Dr Haruo Higuchi. The peak lies in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas, and stands at a height of 5663 meters.

The Tharpu Chuli Peak is easier to climb than other climbing peaks in the Annapurna region like Hiunchuli and Singu Chuli. The peak provides ice & snow climbing at a relatively low altitude. However, the climbers need ice climbing equipment and some experience of high altitude trekking even for climbing this easy peak. The usual route to the peak is from the North West ridge which is graded as Alpine PD and is essentially in three stages, first stage to establish a base camp, second to a high camp, third the climb which is in two parts.
